The Sittaford Mystery - Agatha Christie

Mrs Willett and her daughter host an evening of a seance (google says it as "a meeting at which people attempt to make contact with the dead") on a snowy winter's evening in Sittaford. One of the spirit informs them that Captain Trevelyan is murdered. Major Burnaby is worried and decides to check out the well being of his close friend. To everyone's shock, Major Travelyan is actually found dead. James Pearson, captain's nephew, is arrested due to the circumstantial evidences that was  against him. Miss Emily Trefusis, James fiancee, along with Charles (a journalist) is determined to save him at any cost.

There are too many revelations that happen over the course of the book. In addition to the murder mystery , AC also reveals who is Mrs Willet? why are they in Sittaford.? Last couple of pages were dedicated to who Ms Emily is going to marry?

I was wondering whether this book was adapted as a TV series or a play as this one would make more impact in visual medium than the print. To be frank, I would love to visit the Sittaford house and the surrounding areas. Christie has successfully taken the readers to various locations of the plot..

Normally, the readers will be left in awe of Christie at the end of the mystery. However, it is not the case in this book. It is one of those rare mystery of Christie where readers are not taken through the process of solving a mystery. Here, Emily solves the puzzle at the end in a heroic manner. However, Christie brilliance is visible in the plot and as usual she had written a unputdownable book.

My rating: 3.5/5

Tell me your dreams by Sidney Sheldon

Its difficult to write about this book because it would lead me to give away too much of the plot which might be detrimental to those who have not read this work. So, hence my little thoughts around this book here. Ashley Patterson , a software engineer, feels that she is being stalked by an unknown person. One day, she finds that some strange writings on the mirror and asks for police protection. Strangely, the police person who came fo r protection is found dead. Who has killed him? Is anyone following Ashley Patterson? It is a classic example of how a thriller has to be written. The book is slick and brilliantly edited to sustain the narration. There are no additional words/lines/pages written that deviates/distracts the readers from the plot. The book also touches upon various problems a women undergo in her personal and professional life. Another important theme that resonates in the book is how a childhood trauma can shape the minds of youth and how the inner t...
